Safari Ants

Image
When it rains here, the Safari ants come out in droves. They form trails that can span pretty long distances (for an ant). Richard tried to mess them up by dropping rocks on their path. It reminded of the movie "It's a Bug's Life." One of my students would "play" with them on his way to school, and inevitably, during worship he'd find one or two crawling up his pants. Not fun!

Our First Weekend Off

Image
For our first weekend off-duty (no supervision!!!), we decided to go out for Ethiopian. So, we braved out at night--the driving is even worse--with another couple from school and went to Habesha, an Ethiopian restaurant near Yaya Center in Nairobi. Oh...the food was SO good, and, compared to what we used to pay in Chicago, SO inexpensive. This was just the first of many visits, I'm sure.

First Day of School

We spent the first day of school getting to know one another better. Here are my students: the lower grades (two fourth graders, one second grader, and one first grader) and the upper grades (two fifth graders, two seventh graders, and one eighth grader). I had them make an "All About Me" collage, and then they showed me on the map where they were from. It made a really cute bulletin board! Thanks for the idea, Mom!
